Causeview offers you the ability to create both online (digital) receipts and offline (printed) receipts, allowing you to automate the complex acknowledgment and tax-receipting process for your nonprofit organization. This section will focus on the difference between online and offline receipting.
Using online receipting is an automated process that runs automatically as your organization receives a donation. Once the donation has been processed and entered automatically into Causeview, the receipting process begins. Let's look at an example.
Janet Williams is a constituent that has just donated $300.00 through the online donation form. Causeview has processed the donation through the payment gateway and has begun the receipting process. Janet has selected that she wants a receipt for this specific donation (i.e. not a consolidated receipt). Causeview takes the collected contact information from her individual record in the database (name, address, household, etc.), the transaction (amount), and allocations and places the information into a pre-defined receipt template that has been created.
This receipt is then sent as the body of an email and as a PDF attachment in the email to ensure that the constituent has a copy they can print off that would be identical to one that would be sent in the mail.
Offline receipting is the process of printing and mailing receipts to constituents. Causeview suggests the use of Conga Composer to handle automated offline receipt processing. Conga will allow you to print batch receipts and will utilize the information from Causeview (individual and transaction records, etc.) to populate these receipts. With the addition of Conga Composer, your offline receipt process will be just as easy as your online receipting.
