Most payment processors will remit funds processed by ACH or direct debit within 4 to 10 days, which is longer than the typical remittance schedule for payments made by major credit cards. Additionally, because it’s not possible to provide real-time or instant approval for direct debit payments, it could take anywhere between 3 and 45 days to decline or return the transaction if the donor enters their bank account details incorrectly or does not have adequate funds. When this happens, an ACH Return is generated by the financial institution.
When an ACH payment gets approved, Causeview will either create or update the existing pending ACH payment record in Salesforce. But what happens next if the same payment changes status to return? Causeview will also capture the new payment status from iATS and update the payment record in Salesforce accordingly.
For example if an ACH payment status was changed to returned in iATS after the initial payment was approved, Causeview will reflect this update to the payment status regardless of how many days after the update occurs. Causeview will change the existing ACH payment record in Salesforce from “Approved” to a new “ACH Return” payment status. This change will also be visible on the payment history. Because the payment status is no longer “Approved”, the Approved Amount field on the corresponding transaction record will also be updated automatically to reflect the change. See screenshots below of how an ACH return will appear on the payment record in Salesforce.
