In the Causeview Fundraising datamodel, Donation information is defined by the following records:
- Transactions,
- Payments,
- Allocations,
- Receipts
A transaction saved in Causeview should be connected to an allocation and a payment, as well as a constituent and in some cases a recurring gift, event registration, or transaction benefit. All of these items are automatically created in the application and linked together when transactions are processed by the system. While it’s possible to manually create transactions in Causeview from the Transactions tab or a related list, the connected allocations and payments must also be manually saved and connections must be made between all of the records.
Transactions serve as the link between the constituent and the payment and allocation. Without a transaction, no individual or organization will receive credit in Causeview for the gift to your organization. Payments are important especially from an accounting perspective as they serve as records of income for your organization. Allocations serve to connect transactions and payments with the appeal or event which lead a constituent to give to your organization, as well as the accounting fund the money will be directed toward. Allocations are necessary in order to track the impact of your organization’s efforts, and are important for reporting.
These records are represented for One Time vs Recurring Gift donation:
a. One Time Gift:
- Transaction: single record
- Payment: single record
- Allocation: possibly multiple records
- Receipts: single record

b. Recurring Gift:
- Transaction: single record
- Payments(s): multiple records
- Allocation(s): multiple records,
- Receipt : a single record issued as a Consolidated Receipt at end of calendar year/fiscal year.
- Recurring Gift: a single record

c. Events
NOTE: This datamodel refers to legacy Events in Causeview. Pelase refer to Impact Events for the newer datamodel.
The Event datamodel setups up payments in the same as a One Time Gift (Transaction, Payment, Allocation(s), Receipt however also introduces an Event Registration record.
