This document will teach you how to create a dependent picklist on the Causeview Impact Designer's donation form. A dependent picklist is a custom or multi-select picklist for which the valid values of a child field depend on the value of the parent field.
For example, Country and State are two fields that appear on the Contact Information of a donation form. Depending on the Country selection, the State field will display a list of applicable states/provinces pertaining to that particular country. In this scenario, Country is the parent picklist whereas State is the child picklist.

1. Create a parent picklist
On the donation form, create the field and assign the parent picklist values. (To learn how to create a field, please refer to this article: Impact - Adding a Field to a Form)

2. Create a child picklist
Create the field and assign the child picklist values.

3. Assign a Reference Name for the child picklist
The Reference Name of the child picklist will be used to define the relationship on the parent picklist. On the Properties List of the child picklist, scroll down to the Advanced Properties and set a value for the Reference Name.

4. Assign the child picklist's Reference Name on parent picklist's Related Control to identify the relationship of the two fields.
5. On the parent field's Dropdown List Properties, go to the Data List and click on the pencil icon to edit parent picklist values.

6. Select the child values for each parent value and click "Save". (Note: for system data list, please remember that any changes will affect all forms using it.)
In summary, you now understand how to create a dependent picklist by creating a parent picklist and a child picklist, and creating a relationship between to the two controls to allow the child picklist values to appear correspondingly to the selected parent picklist value.
