The stock template you choose when creating a form determines the default form sections and form fields already pre-built into the form. However, you have the option to customize your form such as adding/removing form fields, changing properties and applying a CSS theme, just to name a few.
Since Impact Designer is very robust and allows you to make a variety of customizations, we are not going to cover all the possible customizations in this article. Instead, we've created separate articles that cover each feature in detail and we recommend that you reference those when looking to use a specific feature.
Here we will cover how to add and remove form fields. First, we need to familiarize ourselves with the Form Designer.
The Form Designer itself is divided into three (3) main areas:
- Controls Panel - contains the sections, form fields and prebuilt sections you can drag on to your form.
- Form Preview - the form in draft mode where you can make adjustments and customizations.
- Properties Panel - displays the properties of a selected section, row, or form field. If you select a section, it will display properties pertaining to the section. If you select a row, it will display properties pertaining to the row and if you select a specific field, it will display properties for the field. The Properties panel also displays form errors if there are any (i.e. missing allocation information error). The Properties panel is where you can adjust labels, specify default values, apply styling and hide fields.
To add a form field, simply drag it from the Controls Panel over to your desired area on the form. In this example, we are going to grab the "Dropdown" control and drag it to our form.
To remove a form field, click on the field to select it (you will know that the field is selected as it will be highlighted in yellow). Then, scroll to the bottom of the Properties Panel and click on Delete Control.
Please note that we do not recommend deleting form fields that come prebuilt in the stock form you are using as they have form actions connected to them in the backend which can prevent form submissions when deleted. For example, the stock donation form comes with the Tribute section. If you do not wish to have this section on your form, we recommend you hide the section, row, or form field instead of deleting it.
